POSITION SUMMARY:

Employee will regularly be required to supervise a varying number of employees in the overall direction, coordination, and completion of tasks as assigned.  The employee will be required to work in close relation to his/her peers and all other Mid-Del employees.

 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

 

  1. The employee's primary function shall be, but not limited to, functioning as a working foreman in the employee's trade area and also to coordinate the efforts of the, Cabinet/ Carpet, Tile, Carpentry, Paint, Glass, and Roofing Departments by communication and planning with the Leadmen in those Departments. The employee shall be responsible for the construction, installation, repair, and maintenance of all shelving, counter tops, cabinets, and related pieces of furniture, however, may on occasion be required to aid roofers, carpenters, painters, glaziers, and tile layers for extended periods of time.

 

  1. Employee must be reliable, dependable and required minimum supervision. Neatness in appearance, courteous and tactful in dealing with other employees or the general public.  Must exhibit good communications skills towards Principals, Teachers, Food Service Personnel, Custodians and students.  Must perform as part of an overall maintenance team working for the timely completion of all assigned tasks, and at times working in different departments.  Should be skilled in proper time management. Should develop a working knowledge of vendors, purchase orders, work orders, and call-in work requests.

 

  1. Daily, must set up and operate woodworking machines to include but not be limited to, power saws, jointers, radial arm saws, drill presses, mortiser, tenoner, molder, shaper, and band saws to cut and shape parts from wood stock. Employee will be required to build, repair, and install counters, cabinets, benches, partitions, floors, doors, building framework, and trim. Marks outline or dimensions of parts on paper or lumber stock. Matches materials for color, grain, or texture.  Trims component parts of joints to insure snug fit.  Bores holes for insertion of screws or dowels.  Glues, fits, and clamps parts and subassemblies together to form complete units.  Shall be required to repair high grade articles of furniture.  Install hardware to include but not be limited to hinges, catches, and drawer pulls.

 

  1. Shall be required to assist in the installation of glass in windows, doors and partitions. Shall be required to assist in the replacement and installation of insulating materials in building framework as well as roofs.  Must be proficient in different roofing materials and their application processes.  Shall be required to assist in the replacement of damaged ceiling tiles, floor tile and wall covering.  Shall be skilled in the driving of nails or other fasteners into joints at designated places to reinforce joints as well as the sanding and scraping of surfaces and joints of articles to prepare them for installation or finishing.  Sets up and operates a variety of woodworking machines and uses various hand tools to fabricate and repair wooden cabinets and other wooden pieces.  Employee shall be responsible for the installation of new carpet or the repair/patching of existing carpets as required.

 

  1. Must be skilled in blueprint and representative drawings interpretation of buildings to include structural and detailed framing plans. Studies blueprints or drawings of articles to be constructed or repaired, and plans sequence of cutting or shaping operations to be performed.

 

  1. Must have the ability to operate various computer software programs to include but not be limited to word processors, spread sheets, and various other programs necessary for the completion of assigned tasks. Shall on occasion, work in close relationship with Director, Maintenance and Construction and/or Supervisor, Maintenance and Construction in the budgeting, maintenance, repair and installation of Carpentry related projects. On occasion, may be required to assist Director, Maintenance and Construction and/or Supervisor, Maintenance and Construction with coordinating, planning, designing, and installation of new construction and/or remodel projects.

 

  1. Must become knowledgeable in the Mid-Del Schools Confined Spaces Program and coordinate the proper application of it in the entire Carpentry section. Must become knowledgeable in the Mid-Del Schools Lockout/Tagout Program and coordinate the proper application of it in the entire Carpentry section.  Employee shall have a general knowledge of all purchases made from all vendor accounts assigned to the Carpentry section (Cabinets/Carpet, Tile, Carpentry, Paint, Glass, and Roofing).  Employee shall regularly be required to secure price quotes on projects being considered. Employee shall be required to assemble these quotes in a format that can be understood by administrators.  The employee will also be required to review detailed inventory accounts from Leadmen prior to their being submitted yearly.

 

  1. Employee shall be responsible for conducting personnel evaluations of all personnel working within the Carpentry section (Carpet, Tile, Carpentry, Paint, Glass, and Roofing).

 

  1. Employee shall be responsible for the coordination and construction of ramps and porches that meet A.D.A. requirements. Employee shall be responsible for the installation of all restroom hardware to include but not be limited to partitions, and handicapped grab rails that meet A.D.A. requirements. 

 

  1. Additional duties that may be assigned by immediate supervisor or above.

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos.  Ability to compose and write grammatically correct correspondence and memos.

 

REASONING ABILITY: 

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, schedule form, or blueprint form.

The noise level in the work environment will vary from somewhat loud to extremely loud.

 

To ensure continuity of services, remote work may be necessary in the event of a health crisis or disruptive situation that requires the closing of school and/or office buildings. An employee’s eligibility for remote work will be determined by the superintendent of schools. Expectations and guidelines for remote work will be distributed by the employee’s supervisor, based on his/her role and responsibilities.
