JOB DESCRIPTION:          EMPLOYABILITY SPECIALIST

 

SALARY SCHEDULE:         $20.00 / HOUR

 

DEPARTMENT:                  MID-DEL TECHNOLOGY CENTER

 

FLSA STATUS:                  NON-EXEMPT

 

SAFETY-SENSITIVE:        YES

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

Works with secondary and adult students to develop employment and soft skills.  The Employability Specialist will teach resume writing, strategic job application skills, interview etiquette, and soft skills.  This position will be the point of contact and lead the MDTC annual job fair.  This position will utilize discretion, confidentiality, ingenuity, and independent judgment due to the complexity of the job.  Since there may be several ways to solve a problem, this person is free to choose the solution within the site procedures and school board policies.  This position has regular contact by telephone or in person with the public and other employees, for the efficient exchange of information.  Job requires interpreting and translating facts and information, explaining situations and issues to persons and advising them of an alternative course of action.

 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily
  • High school diploma or general education degree, college degree preferred, use of personal vehicle with auto insurance.
  • Training or experience in job placement, job development, career development or related field preferred.
  • Computer skills required.
  • Resume preparation experience preferred.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

 

  1. Develops contact with employers by telephone and in person; develops contact through networking groups to assist students in accessing employment opportunities.

 

  1. Maintains current information on jobs and hiring procedures and working conditions. Tracks placement of clients and success on the job. Posts job vacancies in the student lounge and electronic boards.

 

  1. Develops and updates curriculum for job readiness training as needed.

 

  1. Teaches job readiness to individuals and groups. Assists clients with the development of job search plans, provides job leads and maintains records.  Assists with career planning and test interpretation as needed.

 

  1. Implements appropriate ways to enhance communication with employers and clients.

 

  1. Participates in staff meetings, seminars, and conferences. Networks with others in similar fields.

 

  1. Works with instructors to schedule students to work through the soft skill curriculum.

 

  1. Creates electronic folder for students to store their curriculum.

 

  1. Facilitates the annual job and survey participants to make data driven improvement decisions.

 

  1. Additional duties that may be assigned by immediate supervisor or above.

 

 

LANGUAGE AND GRAMMAR SKILLS: 

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos.  Ability to compose and write grammatically correct correspondence and memos.

 

REASONING ABILITY: 

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, schedule form, or blueprint form.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds, frequently lift and/or move more than 100 pounds, and frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to fume or airborne particles.  The employee frequently works in high, precarious places and in outside weather conditions.  The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts, extreme cold (including outdoors), extreme heat (including direct sunlight), risk of electrical shock and vibration.

 

The noise level in the work environment will vary from somewhat loud to extremely loud.

 

To ensure continuity of services, remote work may be necessary in the event of a health crisis or disruptive situation that requires the closing of school and/or office buildings. An employee’s eligibility for remote work will be determined by the superintendent of schools. Expectations and guidelines for remote work will be distributed by the employee’s supervisor, based on his/her role and responsibilities.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Employee may occasionally be required to supervise a varying number of employees in the overall direction, coordination, and completion of tasks as assigned.
