JOB DESCRIPTION: ELITE INSTRUCTOR-EMPLOYMENT SPECIALIST
SALARY SCHEDULE: MDTC – ELITE NON-CERTIFIED INSTRUCTOR
DEPARTMENT: MDTC -ELITE/TANF PROGRAM
FLSA STATUS: EXEMPT

POSITION SUMMARY:
Mid-Del Tech Center’s ELITE Program works with adult students who are a part of Oklahoma’s DHS TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families) program. The primary goal of the ELITE Program is to provide vocational training to students, with the goal to increase self-sufficiency through employment. This individual will serve as the primary classroom instructor for the ELITE Program training areas, which include; job readiness,
computer software, financial literacy, and general life skills. In addition, this individual will assist each student with resume development and other career exploration activities. ELITE students participate in on-line learning that allows the student to progress through the curriculum at their own pace. The ELITE Program is an open entry, open exit program, and the number of students in the program at any time may vary.

 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Strong verbal skills, persuasive/creative skills and ability to work with limited supervision.
  • Model professionalism through appearance, conduct and attitude.
  • Strong organizational skills: ability to facilitate multiple subject areas at the same time.
  • Knowledge of career exploration techniques.
  • Ability to communicate effectively to students individually or in a group setting.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with experience in vocational training education, and those with experience working with disadvantaged groups.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Build working relationships with students to help them meet their goals.
2. Facilitates and provides classroom training in a variety of subjects which include:                  Microsoft Office Suite, soft skills, job readiness skills, financial literacy skills and life skills.
3. Communicates student expectations and holds students accountable for their actions.
4. Assesses student progress, keeps grade reports, and maintenance of student portfolio.
5. Maintains timesheets and keeps daily attendance records for each student.
6. Communicates with the Coordinator daily on students’ progress and issues.
7. Establishes and maintains a structured, professional classroom environment.
8. Provides various types of instruction to meet different types of learners.
9. Additional duties that may be assigned by immediate supervisor or above.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

 

REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
