JOB DESCRIPTION:          DIRECTOR OF MAINTENANCE & CONSTRUCTION

 

SALARY SCHEDULE:         NON-CERTIFIED DIRECTOR

 

DEPARTMENT:                  MAINTENANCE

 

FLSA STATUS:                   EXEMPT

 

SAFETY-SENSITIVE:         YES

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

To maintain the District physical school plant in a condition of operating excellence so that full educational use of it may be made at all times. The employee shall manage/supervise a varying number of employees and shall be responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the Department. Directs, administers, and coordinates the activities of the Department in support of policies, goals, and objectives established by the Superintendent of Schools and the Executive Director of Operations.

 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • Must maintain confidential information of sensitive nature.
  • Bachelor's Degree (BA) or ten (10) years related successful experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Preference will be given to applicants having Bachelor’s degree and construction background.
  • Must clear all necessary criminal and vehicular background checks.
  • Must possess and maintain a current Oklahoma license for motor vehicles.
  • Must be available for unscheduled, emergency call
  • Shall provide a reasonable method of communications during unscheduled emergency situations.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

 

  1. Maintains a sound plan of Department organization establishing policies to insure adequate management and to provide for capable management succession;

 

  1. Develops and implements procedures and controls to promote effective communications and adequate information flow;

 

  1. Evaluates the results of overall Maintenance operations regularly and systematically and reports these results to the Executive Director of Operations;

 

  1. Ensures that the responsibilities, authorities, and accountability of all Department employees are defined and understood;

 

  1. Ensures that all organization activities and operations are carried out in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and laws;

 

  1. Determines scheduled and unscheduled maintenance priorities and sequence of work;

 

  1. Enforces compliance with Occupational Health and Safety Codes;

 

  1. Regularly inspects work performed by Maintenance personnel and outside contractors for compliance with specifications, state, local, fire, and life safety codes
  2. Responsible for written annual performance evaluations of all Maintenance Department employees;

 

  1. Additional duties that may be assigned by immediate supervisor or above.

 

 

LANGUAGE AND GRAMMAR SKILLS: 

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos.  Ability to compose and write grammatically correct correspondence and memos.

 

REASONING ABILITY: 

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, schedule form, or blueprint form.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds, frequently lift and/or move more than 100 pounds, and frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to fume or airborne particles.  The employee frequently works in high, precarious places and in outside weather conditions.  The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts, extreme cold (including outdoors), extreme heat (including direct sunlight), risk of electrical shock and vibration.

 

The noise level in the work environment will vary from somewhat loud to extremely loud.

 

To ensure continuity of services, a different work location may be necessary in the event of a health crisis or disruptive situation that requires the closing of school and/or office buildings. An employee’s eligibility for a varied work location will be determined by the superintendent of schools. Expectations and guidelines for this change will be distributed by the employee’s supervisor, based on his/her role and responsibilities.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Employee may occasionally be required to supervise a varying number of employees in the overall direction, coordination, and completion of tasks as assigned.
