SALARY LEVEL:   TEACHER’S SALARY SCHEDULE

 

DEPARTMENT:      SPECIAL SERVICES

 

REPORTS TO:         DIRECTOR OF SPECIAL SERVICES

 

FLSA STATUS:        EXEMPT - PROFESSIONAL

 

 

 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

JOB SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS:

 

    1. Master’s degree;
    2. American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) certification (Clinical Fellowship Year considered);
    3. Oklahoma State Department of Education certification in speech-language pathology;
    4. Oklahoma State Board licensure in speech-language pathology;
    5. Knowledge of speech and language needs of individuals from 3 – 21 years.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, standardized tests, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from patrons, regulatory agencies, or members of the community. Ability to effectively present information to administrators, faculty, parents and community.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:Ability to calculate and interpret standardized tests, i.e., percentile rank, stanines, deviation quotients, age-equivalencies, etc.

READING ABILITY:Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

JOB GOALS:

    1. To identify, evaluate, place and provide management for students with communication disorders in the areas of speech (articulation, voice, fluency) and language (phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics)
    2. To provide technical assistance and in-service opportunities to teachers related to communication disorders;  

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Provided speech-language evaluations for students referred by school personnel, parents, and coordinating agencies.
  2. Recommend appropriate placement and service delivery for students eligible to receive speech-language services.
  3. Provide appropriate speech-language management of communicative disorders.
  4. Refer for additional speech-language evaluation and consultation when indicated.
  5. Provide guidance and counseling for parents and children regarding speech-language development and disorders.
  6. Provide principals and teachers with current information regarding students currently receiving speech-language services, new referrals, and dismissals.
  7. Attend professional meetings, in-services, and workshops that provide information regarding communication disorders.
  8. Provide in-service to teachers, related service personnel, and parents regarding speech-language development and disorders.
  9. Complete all federal, state and district required forms, meeting required guidelines.
  10. Record and report Medicaid reimbursable services to the Director of Special Services in accordance with the guidelines of the Oklahoma Health Care Authority.
  11. Work with all instructional and related service staff to improve the quality of student achievement.
  12. Complete other activities or job duties as assigned by the Director of Special Services.
  13. Provide opportunities for student observation and supervise graduate students during their clinical practicum from state colleges and universities.
